UF Health Surgeon Michael Latzko specializes in minimally-invasive surgical procedures that treat a variety of conditions affecting the GI tract. An expert in minimally-invasive surgery, Dr. Latzko understands the value of laparoscopy to treat a number of common digestive disorders – including that of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD).
Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, says Dr. Michael Latzko, is generally performed when GERD has become severe – and when medicinal treatments have proven unsuccessful. A minimally-invasive procedure, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery (also referred to as the Nissen fundoplication) works to correct GERD through the creation of a valve mechanism at the bottom of the patient’s esophagus.
Though not always necessary, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery has been proven an effective way to eliminate the symptoms of GERD in many patients. When other methods fall short of managing the condition, anti-reflux surgery may sometimes be the best treatment option.
Dr. Latzko practices laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery as a surgeon at Sebring’s Surgical Specialists.
